How to Interpret CPU & GPU Temperatures

Speccy Pro uses color-coded indicators to show thermal health. Understanding these numbers is critical for preventing overheating.

  • Normal (Green): Below 60°C. Your system is running cool.
  • Warm (Yellow): 60°C - 80°C. Common during gaming or heavy rendering.
  • Critical (Red): Above 85°C. Risk of throttling or shutdown. Check your fans and airflow immediately.

Exporting Snapshots for Support

When asking for help on tech forums, a Speccy Pro snapshot provides all the context experts need.

  1. Open Speccy Pro and wait for the analysis to complete.
  2. Go to File > Save as Snapshot to create a `.speccy` file.
  3. Alternatively, select File > Save as XML or Save as Text for plain-text reading.
  4. You can also use File > Publish Snapshot to generate a private web link to share instantly.

Dealing with Data Inconsistencies

Sometimes Speccy Pro might report a different value than Windows Task Manager. Here's why:

  • RAM Frequency: Speccy Pro often reports the actual bus speed (e.g., 1600MHz), while marketing materials quote the effective speed (DDR means "Double Data Rate", so 3200MHz). Multiply Speccy Pro's number by 2 to see if it matches.
  • CPU Temperature: Different sensors (Core vs. Socket) can report different values. Speccy Pro prioritizes the on-die digital thermal sensor for accuracy.

PC Health Check Best Practices

Regular monitoring ensures long-term stability.

Weekly

Check S.M.A.R.T status of all drives to predict failures before data loss occurs.

Monthly

Verify that all fans are spinning and dust hasn't clogged heatsinks by checking idle temperatures.

Antivirus Warnings & Resolution

If your antivirus blocks Speccy Pro, it is likely a false positive due to the low-level system access required to read hardware sensors.

Steps to Resolve:

  • Verify the digital signature of the installer (Signed by Piriform Software Ltd).
  • Check the file hash against our Download page.
  • Add an exception/exclusion for the Speccy Pro folder in your antivirus settings.
  • Use the Portable version if the Installer is blocked by strict IT policies.
